A top lawmaker from the United States has asked for the elimination of country-specific quota for in the Green Card for the permanent citizens of the country. He has also argued that nearly seven lakh immigrants from India has been stuck into the the trap of temporary work visas due to difficult rules.
The Republican Congressman Kevin Yoder from Kansas, while speaking at the US House of Representatives said that over 700,000 Indian are on work visas and working hard to improve the economy, as well as resources of the country. However, these people are suffering from the difficult immigration rules and they are unable to change jobs or start their own company in the country due to sever-per-nation rule.

While stating his point he gave an example of how the unborn child of a mother in Greenland will be getting the citizenship of the country very soon compared to an Indian who is working hard in America for years.
Yoder further added that the proposed bill by him, High-skill Immigrants Act, which have around 230 co-sponsors will help in fixing this problem. He said that the bill would help in creating new jobs as well.
According to the report, the average time for an Indian applying for the Green Card under the employment category would take the minimum time of 12 years for getting it.
