Visas of students and researchers of China are revoked by the US citing security reasons.
The United States has canceled visas of about 1000 Chinese nationals under a May 29 Presidential proclamation to suspend students and researchers of China due to the security risks.
The decision was informed by a state department spokeswoman on Wednesday.
The acting head of the US homeland security, Chad Wolf said that Washington was blocking visas of certain Chinese students and researchers who have ties to China’s military fusion strategy to prevent them from stealing sensitive research material.
Wolf had asserted on industrial espionage and unlawful business practices by China including China’s attempt to steal the US’ sensitive coronavirus research.
He also said that the US will also prevent the goods produced from the slave labor from entering the country demanding China to respect the inherent dignity of each and every human being.
The visa revoking action is being taken under a proclamation that Trump has announced on May 29 as a part of the US’ response to China’s limits on Hong Kong democracy.
As of September 8, 2020, the US department had canceled more than 1000 visas of the People’s republic of China’s nationals who were found to be subjected to Presidential proclamation 10043 who will therefore be ineligible for a visa.
The spokesman of the US said that the high risk Chinese students and researchers are in a limited number and all the other legitimate students and scholars will continue to be welcomed.
In June, China had strictly opposed any move by the US to block its students and urged Washington to encourage more Chinese students to enhance mutual exchange and understanding.
Around 360,000 Chinese students pursue their studies in the US bringing in significant revenue to the US colleges despite the serious effects of the pandemic.
China, US ties have seen a new low recently with the world’s two biggest economies clashing over the issues ranging from trade and human rights to the Hong Kong.
Recently, some Chinese students have received emails from the US embassy in Beijing informing them that their visas have been canceled.
Over 60 students holding F1 visas including undergraduates and post graduates were informed that their visas are revoked and will have to apply for new visas if they want to enter the US.
