Eight-year-old Nafiya, an Indian girl born having hearing difficulty is now able to hear after doctors have conducted a cochlear implant procedure on her successfully. Her parents were overjoyed when the implant was activated for the first time after two weeks of recovery from the operation.
This is the first cochlear implant procedure at the University Hospital Sharjah, which was performed by surgeons – Ahmad Munzer Al Waa and Faheem Tadros.

“More identical operations will be conducted as there is an augmenting series of infants who are innate with conference impairments,” pronounced Tadros.
Discussing on the procedure, Munzer said: “An electrode is ingrained in a middle ear where a child is mean to hear sounds for an initial time. Gradually, with an assistance of special software, sounds are practiced to nearby normal level.
“This would eventually assist Nafiya to hear all sounds and cope with communication demands,” he added.

“Now my daughter can hear us speak. She will listen to music, birds song and all sounds of the world. This is a special day for the family and is one that we will never forget,” Nafiya’s father said.
