Shivalaya Hindu Cultural Center has celebrated its annual gala and fundraising at Vermilion restaurant in the downtown Chicago to raise fund for the construction of the proposed temple.
The makeshift temple presently operates from a rented space in downtown. The organizers had said that they hope to build the temple once enough funds are raised. The temple celebrates all the religious ceremonies, festivals and events with utmost devotion.

About 100 devotees turned up from downtown Chicago and other neighborhoods for the fundraising. Jigar Shah, cultural and artistic director of Shivalaya and the core executive team had organized the event. It started with a networking and a cocktail reception followed by different cultural performances. The program was consisted of slide show presentations, Bollywood performances, musical events and an open dance floor with a DJ at hand.
There were lots of big rich donors and devotees who had donated funds for the temple. The organizers, could not immediately disclosed any estimate of the funds raised. The temple is aimed at providing Indian values and culture to the community. A silent auction and raffle were also organized during the program.

Shah, who was the master of ceremony, solicited the audience for liberal contributions for the temple construction, pointing out the importance for the community. He said that, Shivalaya wants to create a community that is enriched with culture and values for the next generation. Popular singers Pratibha Jairath and Raj Bankpura made the evening melodious with Bollywood songs.
