Senior Indian Administrative Service officer Shashank Goel’s son, Shubham Goel was shot to death in a larceny attempt in Istanbul, Turkey. The body was brought back to India and the last rites were performed in Uttarakhand on Sunday.
The incident occurred on May 24 and Shashank Goel who is a principal secretary-rank office in Telangana, hurried to New Delhi on knowing about the incident.
With an assist from Union External Affairs ministry, the body was brought to India and the last rites were performed in Roorke, Uttarakhand on May 27 as the kin hails from there. The 24-year-old Shubham Goel, was employed in United States as deputy manager with Federal Bank of America in California and had come to India to attend the wedding ceremony.
On his way back to California, he planned a trip to Turkey with his acquaintance and when they on a sight-seeing trip, a group of thugs confronted them threatening to hand over their money and belongings to them.
When Shubham reportedly tried to defy, he was attacked by a weapon and as well shot to death.
Shubam’s father Shashank Goel, a 1990-batch IAS officer is principal secretary, labour, employment, factories and training.
