US authorities have declared that Canadian Fashion Mogul Peter Nygard is facing nine charges including racketeering and sex trafficking. The fashion mogul has been taken into custody by the Canadian police. US authorities are seeking his extradition into immediate effect.
The charges against him were announced in New York on Tuesday by the US attorney Audrey Strauss, the FBI and the New York police officials.
However the 79 year old fashion icon has denied all the allegations made against him of any wrongdoing.
The alleged crimes arose after officials traced a long pattern of criminal activities which all led back to him. He was involved with multiple criminals and trafficked at least dozens of women across the Unites states, Bahamas and Canada.
My Nygard’s lawyer declared that his client “vehemently denies these allegations and he expects to be vindicated in court”.
The lawyer Jay Prober added that he would be seeking to make a bail application for his client at his earliest convenience.
What are the accusations?
According to the US authorities, Nygard’s used his clothing line as an influence to trafficked young, minor aged female and other substances across countries to friends and business associates.
Women and girls under the age of 18 who come from disadvantaged economic backgrounds have been a victim to his history of abuse and trafficking.
By promising, modelling promises,making threats and career advancement he wouldl lure girls in the line of trafficking. Authorities also claim that Nygard himself would force young and under aged girls to have sex with him in his properties in Marina del Rey, California and in the Bahamas. Sources also claimed that he sometimes forcibly assaulted women who did not comply with his sexual demands.
The lawyer against his Nygard is representing 57 women who have filed a lawsuit against Nygard, claiming sexual abuse.
Who is Peter Nygard?
Peter Nygard is a Finnish- Canadian multimillionaire founded a sportswear and women wear clothing line.
He was accused of traficking in 2016 and 2017 but was released for false accusations. In 2019, he was the subject of child exploitation and stepped down as chairman of the company.
He is also facing a class-act litigation in Manhattn accusing him of sexual misconduct towards many women.
His estimated net worth is around 700 million dollars.
