A month after a 32 year old woman has registered her profile on a matrimonial website, she has been cheated of nearly Rs 3 lakh by a man who has pretended to be a suitor and has claimed to be a Non- resident Indian.
The woman has been identified as a 32 year old from Saki Naka. The conman who had identified himself as Niraj Kapoor had told the victim that he was paying a visit to India in order to meet her. Saying so, he had made the victim to transfer Rs 2.98 lakh to a bank account as he had claimed that he had been detained at the Delhi airport by the Custom officials for carrying undeclared goods and the dollars of United States.
The case has been registered by the Saki Naka police on Monday after the victim has been demanded another Rs 6 lakh by the fraudsters.
The victim is said to have been employed with a private firm and she had lodged a complaint after she had made a call to her friend at the Delhi airport and had learnt that there was no employee called as Sonia Sharma being employed with customs at the airport.
The victim has said that a woman named as Sonia Sharma who had claimed to be a customs official had called her in order to ask money for releasing Niraj Kapoor.
Kishore Sawant who is the senior inspector has said that a case has been booked by the victim after she has been got in touch with a conman who had claimed to be an NRI and has asked money. He added saying that the case is being probed by the cyber crime.
The victim has been duped on the 3rd and 4th of March.
