A women who is in her 30’s has arrived in Japan on December 19 and was the first in Japan to catch the newly found infection strain. This may be a new variant says the health ministry.

Japan has already identified more than a dozen citizens who are also victims to this new strain of virus and that it has been spreading faster than ever. A few cases have also been identified in the Britain as well- those who have been contaminated with this strain.

South Africa’s health authorities are claiming responsibility for the recent surge of infections which have been spreading to other continents across the globe.

Once this virus has been detected, Japan has banned the entry of non-resident foreign nationals, from Monday.

Since this new strain has emerged during the New Year Holidays, the city has been anxious as during this holiday season, hospitals tend to be understaffed. Prime Minister of Japan Yoshihide Suga has been urging the country to stay calm during these difficult times to ease the tension.

Japan health authorities have also been doing diligent tests for Japanese citizens who have been arriving from other countries in order to refrain the virus from spreading. A 56 year old Seiji Oohira who had arrived from India two weeks ago, brought the COVID-19 virus with him and his currently in quarantine.

Japan is currently facing the third wave of the COVID-18 virus infections. The daily cases have hit a shocking 3881 last Saturday. Their one-day all time record was hit on Friday with a stooping 64 cases in one day.

Japan has had a total number of 2,21,000 cases out of which 1,82,000 have recovered and 3,100 have died. Tokyo is the city with the most number of cases that is 56,627 followed by Osaka with 28,928.
