External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has said on Thursday that measures in order to facilitate ease of NRI investment in the country will be taken by the government of India.
Jaishankar said that the issue is very much in the radar of the government and that they are hoping to facilitate ease by the Non-residential Indians (NRIs) and Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs) sooner. He added saying that news regarding the matter can be expected in near time.
“We as a country and as a government would definitely like to see the NRIs invest metaphorically and literally in India in a bigger way,” Jaishankar said.
He added saying that, aiming to ease doing business was the sole reason to merge the NRI portfolio investment scheme with the foreign portfolio investment scheme which was done last year.
He stressed saying, “they say investment is the ultimate act of faith and we know that you have faith in India.” he said that they are confident that it reflects in greater investment and the convenient channels will be worked on.
Jaishankar gave an assurance to the Diaspora that the government of India is currently working for a solution regarding the participation of the diaspora in Indian polls.
