During this time of doom, the one thing that every person across the world is looking forward to is the vaccine. But, the top infectious disease expert, Anthony Fauci reported that the vaccine is likely going to be partially effective.
The expert suggested that U.S will still need to practice the issued public health measures to ensure maximum safety for one’s own self and for the others in the United States.
An approved Covid-19 vaccine could only be 50-60% effective, says Dr Anthony Fauci.
“We don’t know yet what the efficacy might be. We don’t know if it will be 50 percent or 60 percent. I’d like it to be 75 percent or more,” said Fauci in a webinar conducted by the Brown University.
He further emphasised saying that the chances of the vaccine being 98% effective is unlikely, insinuating that the individuals will have to abide by the general public health measures to keep themselves safe.
The Impacts of Covid-19 has already infected over 5 million people in the U.S, claiming over 160,000 lives as well.
The lockdown measures that were implemented initially have impacted the economy of the country, making it experience its worst blow since the Great Depression that happened in the second quarter. The GDP of the country dropped to its lowest grade since the last 73 years.
According to Dr Fauci, the reports and data from the Moderna Inc’s COVID-19 vaccine will likely be available by November or December of this year.
With the gradual reopening of the country, the number of cases have spiked too, alarming experts like Dr Fauci who have emphasised several important guidelines for the people across the country to follow. This includes social distancing and hygiene practices like washing your hands or carrying an alcohol-based sanitizer at all times.
Dr Fauci also mentioned earlier this week that he expects the Covid-19 vaccine doses to be manufactured in tens of millions by early 2021. They also expect manufacture of billions of doses by the end of the year as well.
US President Donald Trump has time and time praised the country’s ways of handling the pandemic, stating that they have had the maximum testing done to ensure better and more accurate results. He further estimated an optimistic forecast reporting that the country (and likely the world) will have a vaccine ready by November 03.
