From zero in 2018, to one person in 2019, to a sudden jump of four people- that is the trajectory of Indian Americans victory in the New York State Legislature.

The vote-count close for the New York Legislature a few weeks ago and Indian Americans created history in Albany with the seat of the Empire’s state government.

Two Indian Americans were decisively elected to the New York State Senate by November 16.

Two Indian Americans are going to be ensconced in the State Assembly this January. The elected member is Jenifer Rajkumar from District 38 and Zohran Mamdani from district 36.

All these victories are making history for the Indian representation in New York and the country overall.

Zohran is the son of a renowned film maker Mira Nair.

Jeremy Cooney defeated Republican Mike Barry in the race for the New York State senate, becoming the second Indian American to serve in the Upper House from upstate New York.

Cooney is a lawyer by training. He was born in an Indian orphanage and was adopted by a single mother in the US. He grew up in an Irish family.

Even though Indian American are relatively new immigrants and a relatively small ethnic group in the group culture of America, Indians are also the fastest growing community group in the USA and had, have and will have a positive impact on the American economy, and seek to increase more influence and representation in the US.
