India is currently under its second phase of the nationwide lockdown, resulting in halt to the airline and railway operations in the country. Amidst it all, a unique wedding took place where an Indian couple got married via the Zoom video conferencing application.

Both the bride and groom used the application to get married sitting in their living rooms of their respective houses. The groom, Sushen Dung stays in Canada but is originally from Mumbai and the bride, Keerti Narang is originally from Bareilly.

The wedding witnessed over 150 guests, who attended the wedding via the video conferencing app.

The bride and groom dressed up in their wedding attires and completed the wedding in their living rooms with their parents. They even arranged for a pandit who conducted the wedding from his own home in Raipur, Chattisgarh.

The families also livestreamed the wedding, attracting over 16,000 viewers from across the globe.

Owing to the rising cases of the Covid-19 in Maharashtra and in India, in general, the couple wanted to complete their wedding via the Zoom app. Since the government has imposed a strict lockdown and restrictions on the red zones, one of the attributes is halt to public gatherings and weddings.

Sushen works in an IT firm in Canada and had travelled to Mumbai for his wedding.

The wedding was all set to happen on April 19, 2020 in Uttarakhand but the coronavirus and the lockdown restrictions put a stop to it. Everything, including the venue and accommodation had to be cancelled because of the covid-19 situation.

The main hurdle for this Zoom wedding was to convince Keerti’s parents as they are not that technology prone. But, they eventually agreed to the same.

Both the families were extremely elated that the wedding was finally happening. They even sent out invitations to the friends and relatives saying it was a wedding from home kind of situation.

Aside from the main event, even the pre-wedding rituals happens via the Zoom app. The mehendi happened at Keerti’s home and everyone witnessed it via the app.

The couple met through a matrimony site. Keerti works as a makeup artist.

Their engagement took place on October 2019 which was when their wedding date was set for April 19.

With the completion of their marriage, the couple are currently in their respective homes. But, once everything is operational again, Keerti is planning to move to Canada with Sushen.
