A 21 year old Indian Origin student was shot dead by four armed robbers at a grocery store in California, USA on Tuesday night. According to a media report.
The deceased Identified as Dharampreet Singh Jasser was working at grocery store which was right next to a gas station in Fresno city of California. Allegedly, there were four armed robbers, which included a person of Indian-origin, They barged inside the store with an intention to loot. As reported by a local daily Fresnobee.
The report further claims that Jasser apparently hid himself behind the cash counter. After looting some cash and goods from the store, One of the robbers shot Jasser while leaving the service station.
The incident came to light yesterday when one of the customers, who had stopped by to buy goods from the store, discovered Jasser’s body on the floor. He then reported it to the local Police.

Dharampreet Singh Jasser hailed from Punjab, And he was studying accounting. He had gone to the US about three years ago. He was staying there on a student visa.
Police have arrested a person named Athwal, 22. He is of Indian-origin and apparently one of the four suspects who looted the gas station that night and also fired multiple shots, one of which killed Jasser.
“A deputy at the Fresno County Sheriff’s office saw the media coverage of the incident on Tuesday and recognized some similarities between the suspects and Athwal” the Madera County Sheriff’s Office said.
The Madera Sheriff’s detectives were then contacted. It was later determined the Athwal is the likely suspect in the shooting on Tuesday night.
The suspect will now be transferred to the Madera Department of Corrections, and a warrant for such purpose has been obtained. Athwal has been charged with robbery and murder of Jasser.
Madera Sheriff Jay Varney expressed “Dharampreet was a completely innocent victim, who just doing his job, when he was senselessly killed during this robbery,”
The Sheriff’s Office said, “Detectives continue their search for the remaining suspects and any kind of further information related to the case.”
