The Indian- origin Arvind Krishna has been elected as the Chief Executive Office (CEO) of the tech giant by the International Business Machines Corp (IBM) Board of Directors. He is said to be joining the list of the Indians to head the US- based multinational company which includes the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Microsoft corp Satya Nadella and the Chief Executive Officer of Google and Alphabet Sundar Pichai, Chief Executive Officer of MasterCard Ajay Banga, the former Chief Executive Officer of PepsiCo Indra Nooyi and Shantanu Narayen who is the Chief Executive Officer of Adobe.
Arvind Krishna has also been elected as a member of the Board of Directors, effective April 6, 2020. he is currently the head of the IBM’s cloud and cognitive software unit he was also a principal architect of the company’s acquisition of the Red Hat.
Krishna, 57, is said to be replacing Virginia Rometty who was the long time Chief Executive Officer of tech giant.
The Board has also elected James Whitehurst who is the Senior Vice President of International Business Machines Corp and also the Chief Executive Officer of the Red Hat, as the President of IBM, effective April 6, 2020. It has been told that Virginia Rometty who is the Chairman of IBM, President and CEO will be continuing as the Executive Chairman of the Board and would serve through the end of the year. It has been noted that Virginia Rometty, 62 will be retiring at the end of the year after almost 40 years with the company.

Arvind Krishna of 57 years of age has joined the International Business Machines Corp in 1990 and is said to have an undergraduate degree from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur and is also said to have a PhD in electrical engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana- Champaign. He is the co- author of 15 patents and has also received the distinguished alumni awards from IITK and the University of Illinois.
Arvind Krishna has also been an editor of the journals of IEEE and ACM and has extensively published in technical conferences and journals.
Rometty described Arvind Krishna as a brilliant technologist who has played an important role in developing the key technologies of IBM such as artificial intelligence, cloud, quantum computing and block- chain. She has added saying that Arvind has grown the Cloud and Cognitive Software business of the International Business Machines Corp and being responsible for the largest acquisition in the history of the company.
She said that Arvind Krishna is well- positioned for leading International Business Market and the clients of the company into the era of cloud and cognitive and has also described Arvind being the right Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for the next era at the International Business Machines Corp.
Arvind Krishna has shared feeling thrilled and humbled for bring elected as the next Chief Executive officer of IBM and had expressed gratitude towards Ginni and Board for placing the confidence in him. He mentioned IBM having the most talented technology and people which serves the clients in solving their toughest problems.
