The National Science Bowl, one of the largest science competitions commenced by Department of Energy crowned its winners of competitions 2018. A high school team from Lexington, Massachusetts which included Indian American Snigdha Allapathi and a middle school team from Belleuve, Washington were the winners in their respective competitions.
The Lexington High School team as well included Ben Choi, Derik Kauffman and Anka Hu, who bested North Hollywood High in winning the competition.
In the meantime, Odle Middle School, led by an Indian American coach Rina Chowdary won its championship with a team of Ishan Bansal, Eric He, Neil Chowdhury, Eric Liu and Clarence Zheng.
The National Science Bowl is a national wide competition that tends to test students knowledge in the areas of science and mathematics. Middle and high school student teams from diverse backgrounds comprised of four students. The teams face off in a fast-paced question & answer format on science disciplines including biology, chemistry, earth science, physics, energy and math.
The National Science Bowl was created by Department of Energy in 1991 to encourage students to excel in mathematics and science. About 275,000 students have participated in the National Science Bowl.
In January 2018, more than 9000 high school students and 4500 middle school students competed in regional Science Bowl tournaments.
