An Indian-American medical student has plunged to death while jumping between rooftops in Philadelphia, says the media reports of US.
The victim has been identified as Vivek Subramani, a third year student at Drexel College of Medicine. The victim is said to be 23-years of age.
The university said in a statement that Subramani was with two other medical students when he fell off from the balcony. However, the version of the police regarding the cause of the death was contradictory.
According to the police, the witnesses has said that Subramani along with two of his friends were jumping between the rooftops of the apartment building on the night of January 11 and the accident had taken place.
Subramani’s friends said that, the incident has occurred when they were jumping between the rooftops of their apartment building when Subramani missed his mark and plunged, hitting his head on the ground.
The police said that, the student had been drinking at a fraternity event earlier in the evening which was also admitted by the students.
The victim’s friends found him in a pool of blood and had performed Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). The victim had been declared dead at the Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, said the police.
A GoFundMe page has been launched by the Drexel Chapter of Sigma Beta Rho, of which Subramani was a member. The page has been launched in order to establish scholarship for Drexel University College of Medicine students in the name of the victim, Subramani.
It is said that the organizers have aimed at collecting USD 35,000 and have been successful in collecting nearly USD 27,000 so far.
The GoFundMe page fraternity has described Subramani being a bright and caring person and was close to achieving his dream of becoming a doctor.
