An Indian-American educator and a democrat Deep Saran, 45, will run for the US House of Representatives from a district in Virginia.
On his campaign website, Saran said, “I’m a teacher, school founder, technology entrepreneur, lawyer, and child of immigrants from India,”
“As the child of immigrants, I would push back against intolerance and hatred,” Saran added.
Saran joins the league of nearly 12 Democrats in the fray for the right to challenge the two- term Republican Congresswoman Barbara Comstock from the 10th Congressional District of Virginia. He said that he would champion a national commitment to improve the quality (in terms of accessibility and affordability) of public education.
Around 50 years back, Saran’s parents have emigrated from India. During India’s partition, Saran’s father was a refugee. He runs a school, ‘Loudoun School for the Gifted’, which he founded.
Saran who holds a degree in political science from University of Maryland, has previously, attended law school at Georgetown University. Early in his career, Saron served as a corporate attorney for large firms in Chicago and Baltimore. Later, he left the private legal practise and shifted his focus on how children learn and work on a PhD in Human Development at University of Maryland.
