Indian American who served as Chairman of Federation of Indian Associations of New York and New Jersey passed away due to COVID complications.
Ramesh Patel who aged 78 couldn’t fight over COVID-19 and he died on June 6 in the afternoon around 4.30 at Hackensack Medical Center. He was fighting for life for two months exactly as he was admitted on April 6.
FIA said Patel had served the Indian American community for 50 long years and his death is an “end of an era”.
Patel is fondly called as “Kaka within the community and he is also treated as a mentor. After his loss, the former President of FIA said the community lost its “mentor” and community stalwart. He will be missed forever for his services and kindness he showed throughout his stay with the community.
This far, he kept the Indian-Americans together in the community. He also held different positions in his career. He was the President of the organization 1988 to 1990. He was the one who always promoted Indian culture and heritage of India in the US by organizing the events. He also used to organize FIA’s flagship event. Apart from these events, he made sure to have the India Day Parade celebrations in the US to mark India’s independence Day in August.
Patel was the Chairman of the Gujarati Associations of North America and National Organization of Indian Americans Associations. He always took responsibility for charities and foster friendships between the people of India and the US. His efforts were all to build an enduring partnership between the two democracies.
