President Donald Trump after sharing the stage with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at ‘Howdy Modi!’ event traveled to western Ohio to highlight the United States’ investment partnership with Australia ahead of 74th session of United Nations General Assembly.
President Trump and Australian prime Minister Scott Morrison visited a recycled paper factory being opened by Anthony Pratt, an Australian entrepreneur who is investing billions of dollars in the United States to generate thousands of manufacturing jobs.
The citizens of Ohio thronged to the factory and chanted ‘U.S.A., U.S.A.’ when the president talked about products country emblazoned with the words Made in America.’
To the cheering crowd at a New Pratt Industries plant which is still under construction, Trump told this great state of Ohio is open for business. Pratt, praising the Trump administration’s economic and tax policies said if it wasn’t for your presidency, this mill wouldn’t be here today.
Trump’s visit was meant to demonstrate the strong trade and investment relationship between the two countries and focus attention on President Trump’s successful efforts to restore the United States as world ‘s leading destination for foreign direct investment.
Prior to the trip to Ohio, President Trump joined PM Modi to highlight the growth of United States exports to India and billions of dollars spent by India on the United States defense equipment. Clasping hands, Trump and Modi walked across the stage in the jam-packed Texas stadium sending a message of unity between the world’s two largest democracies.
Trump also talked about border security, an important campaign issue for Texas, which shares a border with Mexico. He said we are taking action unprecedented action to secure our southern border and stop illegal immigration.
Trump said Modi invited him to the mega diaspora rally when they met earlier this month in France, and Trump seemed to explain his decision to attend by saying ‘I love India.’
Despite latent hostility, Trump said the bonds of the United States-India are expanding over India’s trade surplus with the U.S. In June, the U.S. canceled special trade privileges that had allowed India to export certain goods with lower tariffs. India responded by slapping tariffs on more than two dozen U.S. goods.
India and the United States are talking about ways to negotiate at least a partial trade deal, which would let the president score a victory as he campaigns for reelection in November 2020.
At the ‘Howdy Modi!’ event, the Prime Minister of India briefly mentioned the trade talks and expressed hope that an announcement can be made while he and Trump take part in the United Nations gathering.
Though Trump called himself a “tough negotiator”, Modi said that he has learned a few things from Trump about the art of making deals.
In the mega diaspora event, where over 50,000 Indian Americans were present, Trump also briefed on recent storm flooding in the southeastern part of the state when he stopped at a nearby U.S. Coast Guard station.
A number of homes and other structures across the region extending eastward from Houston and across the Louisiana border were damaged by one-time tropical storm Imelda, which bit by bit churned across the Gulf region, dumping more than 40 inches (102 centimeters) of rain in some areas.
Trump is likely to spend most of the week in New York participating in the U.N. General Assembly.
