Last Saturday,during the rally where the Indians living in the US were expressing solidarity with farmers who were against the new laws issued by the Central government defaced the Gandhi statue in Washington. The White House said this desecration is appalling to see as the reputation of Gandhi should be respected.
The White House describes this act as appalling. Embassy in the US was defaced and vandalize by the Khalistani supporters.
The White House declared this act as terrible and no statue should be desecrated, and certainly not Gandhi who fought for the values that America represent- peace, justice and freedom . The White House also stated that they believe in the principles Gandhi instilled and should be respected.
Last Saturday, posters and banner were pasted and propped against the statue along with yellow flags. Some were seen waving Khalistani flags and raising slogans.
The Indian Embassy has condemned this incident h as a mischievous act by hooligans masquerading as protesters against a universally respected figure.
The Embassy and US law are investigating the culprits responsible for this act.
This was the second time in 2020 that the Gandhi’s statue has been defaced. The first time was during the George Floyd protest.
The Gandhi statue was unveiled by the former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on September 16, 200 in the presence of the former USA president Bill Clinton.
