According to Johns Hopkins University, the U.S records more than 12 million confirmed coronavirus cases and 2,55,000 deaths. The U.S is the top affected country by virus outbreak in the world.
The good news is, the expectation of COVID-19 vaccine by mid-December to the first Americans.
Lately last week, Pfizer company along with it’s partner BioNTech submitted an application to the US Food and Drug and Administration. The application is submitted for emergency use authorization for its COVID-19 vaccine candidate. Post this process, an FDA vaccine advisory committee is scheduled to meet on 10 December.
Developed vaccine needs two doses which showed 95% effectiveness with safety. Pfizer has expectations of vaccinating 25 million people by end of the year.
The U.S will face challenges while distributing the vaccine to over 330 million individuals and also controlling the fake information about vaccine spread on social media.
The head of coronavirus vaccine programme, Dr.Monchef Slaoui, passed a statement “Our plan is to be able to ship vaccines to the immunisation sites within 24 hours from the approval, so I would expect maybe on day two after approval, on the 11th or on the 12th of December”
According to Dr.Slaoui, hopefully, the vaccine will be delivered to first people through all states of the United States. He also added that, 70% of people will be immunized in the month of May as per the plans.
He said “Most people need to be immunised before we can go back to a normal life”
Dr.Slaoui is yet to discuss about vaccine plans with Biden’s team. But Biden warned last week to coordinate to speak about the vaccine procurement. He said “more people will die if we don’t coordinate”.
Meanwhile, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention(CDC) has warned the spike of coronavirus cases across the nation. The CDC alerted the Americans to stop travelling on Nov 26 which is Thanksgiving Holiday as preventive measure of virus spread.
