A farmer named Kadile Papanna who is 55 years of age and who lives in Siragpur which is a tiny village in the district of Nirmal, has been calling up an acquaintance who lives in Saudi Arabia in order to ensure about the expected date of the arrival of his only son’s corpse.
Kadile Chandu who is said to be the son of the farmer was working as a farm labourer in Saudi Arabia has died nine months ago and the body has been lying since then in a mortuary.
The father of the deceased Kadile Papanna has neither cut his hair nor had shaved his beard since he heard the news of his son’s death and the weddings in his relatives circle have also been postponed. It has also been said that the widow of the deceased Kadile Chandu has been in a strange situation since she has got to know about the death of her husband as she is waiting to attain the widowhood in a formal way and that all the formalities can only be completed after the last rites would be performed after the cremation of the body of Kadile Chandu as there exists mandatory rites which are believed to bring salvation to the souls that have departed.
It has been said that the body of the deceased Kadile Chandu is still lying in the mortuary in Saudi Arabia as it is still pending for the completion of the lengthy and the legal formalities and therefore the repatriation of the body is getting delayed.
The trauma and the ordeal that are being experienced by the families of the poor NRI workers in the countryside can be illustrated by the case of Kadile Papanna. It has been said that Kadile Chandu has apparently got electrocuted on the 28th of the month of June in the previous year 2019, in a remote village in the southern part of Saudi Arabia. A letter has been sent by the wife of the deceased Kadile Chandu where in she had been requesting the postmortem over the death and also the arrears of the salary and the other financial benefits.
The diplomatic sources say that the procedure for the postmortem in Saudi Arabia would take from three months to over a year. The case has been persistently followed by the employees of the Indian Embassy with the employer, police and the public prosecution in the place which is said to be around 615 kilo meters away from the Riyadh city where Kadile Chandu has died. The Indian Embassy was able to recently receive a report after numerous hectic efforts that have been made.
The funds should also be arranged by the Chandu’s employer for the chemical embalming and the freight charges for the repatriation of the body to his home country India. It has been said that the employer is busy and is moving around the country and that the mortal remains of the deceased Kadile Chandu can only be repatriated after the employer spends the money for his dead worker.
