An expert from Harvard said the US could read 200000 deaths in September. Whereas the coronavirus cases in the US crossed over 2 million on Wednesday. The expert also said, pandemic won’t be over in september.
Harvard’s Global health Institute expert, Ashish Jha said that 200000 people would lose their lives to COVID-19 in september.
He also said “Even if we don’t have increasing cases, even if we keep things flat, it’s reasonable to expect that we’re going to hit 200,000 deaths sometime during the month of September”
“And that’s just through September. The pandemic won’t be over in September.”
The US is the worst affected country in the world with a total 112,754 as per the Wednesday’s report. Jha also linked saying, the US is the only country to reopen without getting its cases increased to a controlled level- people testing positive for COVID are remaining at 5% or lower for at least 14 days.
The expert said that were not “something we have to be fated with” and it is only possible to prevent deaths by improved testing, contact tracing and social distancing. Along with this strict use of masks can help.
Most of the US states are noted with an increasing rate of positive cases in the last a few cases. Jha and other experts in the institute expressed their view on easing the restrictions as “too early” as the virus is spreading widely.
There is an increase of 40% in each state of-New Mexico, Utah and Arizona. Florida and Arkansas are the other hotspots according to Reuters.
New infections are coming in slightly after noticing five weeks of decline according to the analysis which shows 2,003,038 total cases.
The new cases are post testing 545690 people in a single day but have since fallen. This difference is observed by the COVID tracking project.
In the view of health officials nationwide protests against racism could be another cause for an increase of cases rapidly. Protestors failed to follow the social distancing that became vulnerable for cases of growth since May 25, death of George Floyd in Minneapolis police custody. So, the officials urged all the protesters to come forwards to get tested.
Meanwhile, Vice President Mike Pence said he didn’t see a sign of that. He said many protestors maintained social distance and they covered their faces with masks.
He said “What I can tell you is that, at this point, we don’t see an increase in new cases now, nearly two weeks on from when the first protests took effect”.
