The grieving Indian origin family of a woman killed in a hit-and-run at Walsall in England was racially abused while paying tribute to their loved one at the scene of the tragedy. The British police force is now appealing for witnesses and information.

The 52-year-old Kulvinder Kaur died after being hit by a car on Cavendish Road on September 12 and a 20-year-old man has since been charged by West Midlands Police for dangerous driving.

Two days later (September 14), as distraught relatives were visiting a floral memorial for Kulvinder Kaur at the crash site, a passer-by hurled abuse towards the family.

Family members who had bravely returned to the crash scene to pay their respects were confronted with unpleasant comments from a passer-by, who was on foot and according to police, he was local and most likely aware of what tragically happened just two days early.

A statement by West Midlands Police said racial abuse is unacceptable at any time but feels even more despicable when a family has just lost a loved one.

The officers are investigating the ‘deplorable’ crime and are asking for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.

“We are urging anyone who can help our investigation to get in touch as soon as possible,” Sergeant Stephen Pursglove, from Walsall Police, said.

Kaur was hit by a Peugeot 206 just at around 1 p.m. last Thursday (September 12) and pronounced dead at the scene despite the best efforts of medics.

Lewis Jukes was taken into custody and charged with causing death by dangerous driving, failing to stop at the scene and other traffic offenses earlier this week. He is scheduled to appear at Birmingham Crown Court on October 15.
