A delegation of the Global Organization of People of Indian Origin met with the Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj to discuss the issue of demonetization as well as the huge sum in old notes worth ₹75,000crores, which are still lying at the pockets of Overseas Citizen of India and People of Indian Origin.
The Chairman of GOPIO, Thomas Abraham, who also headed the delegation said that although the government had earlier provided certain period for the Indian-origin people to deposit their old demonetized notes, the option was not available for Indians with foreign citizenship and government has also made it very clear that it is not going to provide any such window in future.

During the meeting, other issues such as Aadhaar Card, PIO participation in Make in India, re-establishment of the NRIs rescued from the Middle East as well as clean Indian were also discussed.
Indian Consul General of New York, Sandeep Chakravarty, along with the officials of the GOPIO, also attended the meeting.
