A labourer from Nizamabad district who has been working in Kuwait in the Gulf had been cheated by a cyber fraudster.
Jangam Ashok, a resident of Cherupu village of Nizamabad district has been working as a labourer since last three years in Kuwait. He claims that he has received a message on his mobile phone that he had won a huge amount of Rs 40 lakh for which he had to deposit Rs 16 lakh in his account.
The cyber fraudster has sent the victim an online message that he had won a lottery of Rs 40 lakh for which the victim has to deposit Rs 16 lakh in the account. The fraudster has collected the money from the account and switched off his mobile phone.
It is said that the labourer’s wife had sold their house and her gold ornaments in order to pay the amount of Rs 16 lakh which was sought by the fraudster.
Ashok has said that, he had deposited Rs 5 lakh in the account of the fraudster from Kuwait and told his wife to deposit the remaining amount of Rs 11 lakh. The labourer has asked his wife to sell his house, gold ornaments and to take debt from the villagers in order to deposit the amount of Rs 11 lakh to the account of the fraudster.
Accordingly, the labourer’s wife had collected the amount and had deposited in 11 different accounts with one lakh in each of the eleven accounts. After the fraudster has received the money, he had switched off his mobile phone which was later realized by Ashok that he has been cheated.
Ashok along with his wife, Muthamma, and his aunt spoke to the media along with Patkuri Basanth Reddy, the Gulf welfare association leader, at Nizamabad Press Club. A appeal has been made by Muthamma in order to seek an action against the online fraudsters who target the poor and gullible people and cheat them. The innocent people are being trapped who believe in the fraudsters and sell their property, said Basanth Reddy.
An enquiry is being conducted as the complaint has been lodged with the Armoor police.
