World Health Organisation warns the world that the coronavirus pandemic will get “worse and worse” if the governments of countries don’t take necessary and strict actions
The coronavirus cases in the world have crossed the 13 million mark and it is a reason to worry. With more countries opening up and allowing access to public places and travel there are countries like India, Brazil and United States where the cases have been rising rapidly. United States of America still remains at the top b being the worst affected country by the pandemic with more than 3 million confirmed coronavirus cases.
The World Health Organisation says that it is a reason to worry as the pandemic is going to get worse and worse. The Director General of World Health Organisation, Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus also mentioned that too many countries are going in the wrong direction and governments are not taking decisive actions for the curb of the virus.
The coronavirus cases were rising where proven measures were not adopted or followed and United States saw a rise during the tension between the Health Exerts at WHO and President Donald Trump. The president has also formally submitted a notice of withdrawal from the global health Organisation which is Geneva based. United States has fatalities of more than 135,000 and confirmed cases of more than 3.3Million.
There was a briefing on Monday were World health Organisation mentioned that governments and people are not working with unity to fight the number one enemy of the world which is actually the virus. The health experts and spokesperson have also mentioned that the global health organisation has been receiving mixed messages from the leaders of the world which were inturn undermining the trust of common public.
The health experts at WHO also mentioned that all the measures and protocols given by the health officials like wearing masks, social distancing, sanitizing needs to be taken seriously and people need to adapt it as the new normal because Covid-19 is here to stay and there will be no return to the old normal in the foreseeable future. If the basic rules and protocols are not followed the pandemic is just going to get worse and worse.
United States of America saw an intense community transmission after some places and areas opened up as a measure of easing the lockdown. Brazil has around half of the covid-19 deaths in the world; this was because the president did not take measures to curb the virus. Latin America has reported around 145,000 deaths related to coronavirus and this is still the result of insufficient testing.
Dr. Ryan said closing down large regions would have huge economic consequences, but that local lockdowns in specific places might be necessary to mitigate the spread of the virus and help in flattening the curve.
The health experts urge the governments to implement strong strategies and also to the citizens to understand the situation and comply with it.
Talking about the vaccine and immunity the health experts at WHO clearly said that people need to learn to live with the virus and thatexpectations that the virus will be eradicated completely or a vaccine will be ready in few months in very unrealistic.
He said it was not yet known whether recovering from the coronavirus would lead to immunity, or, if it did, how long that immunity would last.
Scientists at King’s college London released a study which showed that immunity to the virus is just short-lived. Most of the people who participated In the study had antibodies that could detect and neutralize coronavirus but levels of the antibodies began to wave over the 3 months.
At the WHO briefing, health experts also said there was evidence to suggest that children under the age of 10 were only very mildly affected by Covid-19, while those over 10 seemed to suffer similar mild symptoms to young adults. To what extent children can transmit the virus, while it appears to be low, remains unknown.
Looks like the coronavirus which originated in the Wuhan city of China is here to stay for a long time and people need to make this the new normal instead of waiting for the old normal to be back again.
