The Government of India has directed its Ministry of Women and Child Development, with a decision to issue one more lookout circular, against the accused over disputes in NRI marriages.
The Integrated Nodal Agency (INA), in a meeting held under the chair person ship of the WCD secretary, suggested that the passport of the concerned person against whom the complaint has been filed may be impounded or revoked as per the provisions of the Passport Act.
The INA, is an organizational committee of inter-ministerial body on disputes in NRI marriages, it had issued five LoCs after examining the complaints received regarding NRI matrimonial disputes.
According to the Statement given by authorities, they said that “In criminal matter involving NRI’s, LoC could be issued by the INA in cognizable offence, when the overseas husband is deliberately evading arrest or not appearing in the trial court despite non bailable warrants and other coercive measures or there is a likelihood that he will leave the country to evade trial or arrest”.
They would also issue a Look out notice after scrutinizing the case by NCW, said authorities.
The government was receiving complaints of frauds, abandonment, domestic violence, extra-marital relationships, ex-part divorce, being victim of money after promising marriage, forceful or illegal retention of children’s custody, non-payment of maintenance.
There are still many number of NRI matrimonial dispute cases which still remained pending on account of non-appearance of the culprits jeopardizing women and their children’s future.
The INA was implanted to formulate and work on issues related to NRI matrimonial disputes.
Since January 2018, four meetings of INA have been consequently attended by its members to formulate appropriate measures.
