In a major Cabinet re-allotment carried out by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in what is delineated as the beginning of his gearing up for the 2019 elections, all the four Indian-origin ministers have retained their positions.

Currently, Trudeau’s Cabinet has 34 ministers, in the lead from the previous 30. It features 17 men and 17 women, and Prime Minister Trudeau.

Former Toronto police chief Bill Blair, in a surprise move on Wednesday, nominated Minister of Border Security and Organized Crime Reduction.

An Indian-origin from Edmonton Mill Woods – Amarjeet Sohi was shifted to natural resources ministry. The portfolio of his infrastructure was allotted to Jim Carr, who as the new minister of international trade is hoped-for to diversify Canada’s trade interests on the far side of the United States.

Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development Naavdeep Bains and Minister of National Defence Harjit Sajan, who are two other Indian-origin ministers have retained their portfolios.

Bardish Chagger, an Indian-origin lost the tourism and small business portfolio yet preserved her key position as the leader of the regime in the House of Commons. In the year 2016, she was pledged as the first woman leader of the House of Commons. Her parents had immigrated to Canada from India in 1970.
