Larry King is a United States Television legend who hosted more than 50,000 interviews of the most famous people in America and the world.
He had a six-decade run on TV which included 25 years of hosting his own night programme on CNN. King interviewed some of the most famous people in the world from all categories from music, sports, actors to even political leaders.
His show on CNN was called the Larry King Show which aired on CNN. He would bring around 1.5 million viewers every night. The finale for this show was in 2010 and he set record as the longest running show hosted by the same person.
He had interviewed almost every President of the United States since 1990 except Joe Biden.
The host was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1933. After he graduated high school, his father had passed away so he began helping his mother.
In his early 20’s, he realized that he wanted to work in broadcasting. He moved to Florida where he worked in a Radio station. In 1978, he rose to fame on broadcasting and from an all-night radio show, he began hosting an all night talk show on CNN called The Larry King Show.
In his 50 year career, he did exclusive sit down interviews with every USA President since Gerald Ford except for Joe Biden. Other high profile guests he had on the how include Dr. Martin Luther King, the Dalai Lama, Bill Gates, Lady Gaga, LeBron James, Britney Spears, Paris Hilton, Margaret Thatcher, Snoop Dog, Eminem, Dolly Parton, Russian President Vladamir Putin and Martha Stewart.
The legend had won countless awards including the Peabody Award for Excellence in broadcasting for both radio and TV shows.
Apart from the TV life, King was married eight times to seven women and had five children, nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren. The host also suffered from multiple health complications over the years including diabetes and angina. He suffered with lung cancer and underwent treatment and in 2019, he suffered from a stroke that left him in a coma for multiple weeks.
In 1998 he founded the Larry King Cardiac Foundation which is a charity that helps and funds heart treatment for those with limited or no financial or medical means of insurance.
The host had never before interviewed celebrities and guests on his show. He had the most exclusive content on TV which you could never find anywhere else. He was the first host to interview death penalty victims, the 9/11 victims and even disgraced Mike Tyson, the legendary boxer with short term anger issues and left unharmed. He interviewed more than 35 world leaders and dignitaries. One of the highlights of his career includes an interview with Marlon Brando, the legendary actor who barely agreed or gave any interviews. He was took legendary singer Frank Sinatra’s interview before he passed away.
In early January 2021, he was admitted in a medical center is Los Angeles for COVID-19. He died on January 23 2021 due to the COVID-19 virus. His work will forever be remembered and cherished.
