Quebec and Ontario are witnessing a spike in the number of COIVD-19 cases and might face lockdown once again.
It comes as a reversal of fortune for Canada that could successfully avoid its summer spike by wearing masks but had to face a spike now.
The two largest provinces of Canada, Quebec, and Ontario have been witnessing a spike in the number of COVID-19 cases being reported and the experts are warning that the parts of the economies in Canada might be locked down once again.
Quebec has witnessed more coronavirus deaths than the 40 states combined in the US. The province at present, has 5000 plus active cases which is a 71 percent hike when compared to the start of the pandemic.
The bars and restaurants are on the verge of closing again in the two biggest cities Montreal and Quebec.
Hospitalizations in these two cities have risen by 26 percent.
Ontario, which is the largest province with 14.7 million people. The city has reported 700 new cases on Monday though the city has been testing more people than it used to test previously.
Several hospitals are urging the Canadian government to close down Toronto and Ottawa by closing the gyms, restaurants and bars.
In Toronto, the country’s capital, the restrictions were lifted on July 31. But, as the labor day neared, the cases started to rise again.
Six months of the restrictions have left the Canadians as restless as the rest of the world and the spike in the number of cases can be attributed to the social gatherings by young people mostly in their 20’s and 30’s who were fed up with the social distancing.
Quebec and Montreal are about to be declared as red zones and Quebec’s health minister is urging the people to stay home by doing a social sacrifice.
Moreover, experts are predicting that with the onset of the winter season the spread of the coronavirus could be more as the virus survives longer in the cold air which lacks moisture.
Meanwhile, people’s mucous membranes would be less effective in filtering out the virus and the infection rates would be much higher indoors.
One good news is that Canada has the lowest mortality rate which is less than half of the US since the pandemic has begun.
But, as the mortality rate is less, it does not mean that the hospitals would not be flooded with new cases every day.
Moreover, with the onset of winter, the flu season also starts making it difficult for people to cope with their health.
