Outrage erupted on social media from Tuesday after offensive T-shirts are being sold on Amazon using a language that is believed to be sexist and racist.
Following pressure from Twitter users, Amazon has removed a clothing line that referred Kamala Harris in an offensive way, from its website after the users termed the brand as unacceptable.
The T-shirts, tank tops, hoodies which had the words ‘Joe and Hoe’ written in red, white and blue representing the Democratic party and the Presidential nominee Joe Biden and the vice presidential nominee Kamala Harris were on sale on Amazon for a price range between $24.99 and $42.99.
This derogatory phrase was also used recently by a conservative radio host and a friend of Donald Trump Rush Limbaugh who has a history of making abusive comments on the Senator.
The removal of the T-shirts from the retail giant came after the Twitter users evoked outrage on the social media handle and decided to complain against the brand.
An Amazon spokesperson said on Wednesday that the products had been removed from the website and advised all the sellers on Amazon to follow the selling guidelines and asserted that those who do not follow will be subjected to action including removal of their account.
While products are removed from the website, the seller The Oxygen Bandit still seems to be active on Amazon by selling a range of potentially themed garments including phrases like ‘Byedon 2020’ hoodie and ‘Kamala smelled best’ and ‘I’m an AmeriKaren’ T-shirts.
On Wednesday night, Kamala Harris has accepted the Democratic party’s historic nomination as vice presidential candidate at the Democratic National Convention’s third night.
This is the first time that a black woman is on the major party ticket showcasing the diversity of race and gender.
The third night of the party’s convention also featured a striking repudiation by former President Barack Obama of Donald Trump who also praised Mr.Biden’s character and directed a portion of his remarks to voters undecided about whom to vote in the November elections.
Kamala Harris while accepting the vice presidential nomination said that the country is at an inflection point. She also pointed out that the country deserves much more and the democratic party can do the justice.
The program focussed on issues like climate change, gun violence, child care, immigration violence against women and the plans to tackle the warming planet.
Much of the third night was devoted to the power of women in politics and the Democrats promised to keep fighting to combat sexual violence and improving access to affordable child care.
