Democrat Joe Biden called Kamala Harris a fearless fighter for the little guy and also as one of the country’s finest public servants.
Democratic Presidential candidate Joe Biden on Tuesday chose Senator Kamala Harris as his running mate, making her the first Black woman and the first woman of Indian history to run on a major US Presidential ticket.
Amid the tremendous social unrest in the country over the racism and ill treatment of the Blacks, Democrat Joe Biden is looking to mobilize black votes in the coming Presidential elections in November.
Moreover, Biden has been on a constant pressure to select a black woman as his VP.
Kamala Harris hails from Indian roots with her mother Shyamala Gopalan being a Tamil Indian American who was a leading cancer researcher and an activist. She passed away from colon cancer in 2009.
From Kamala’s name which her mother gave her to Kamala’s focus on immigration and equal rights, her mother has had a profound influence and a lasting legacy on her high flying daughter.
Joe Biden took to Twitter to express his opinion on Kamala and called her a fearless fighter for the little guy and also named her as the country’s one of the finest public servants.
Kamala Harris is a 55 year old Senator from California who also once attempted to run for President post in the White House.
She stayed in the US for her career as a breast cancer researcher and later worked at the University of Illinois and the University of Wisconsin which led her to eventually become a part of the Special Commission on the breast cancer.
In addition to being an inspirational researcher, Kamala is also a civil rights activist. She also passed this activism on to her daughter.
Harris became the second Black female US Senator in history when she was elected in 2016.
African Americans who are generally democratic party’s most loyal constituency, showed the first dip in voter turn out for the first time in 20 years in the previous elections when Hillary Clinton was running for President.
Therefore, selection of Kamala Harris as the running mate gives the democratic party a chance to establish a robust vote bank from the Black community.
The African American votes will be crucial in the Important states of the US like Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin where Trump had narrowly prevailed in 2016.
Moreover, Republican leaning states like Georgia and Florida too have a higher chance this time to vote for Biden with Harris as the running mate.
Biden and Harris will appear together on Wednesday at an event in Biden’s home town of Wilmington.
Former US President Barack Obama too had extended his support for Harris.
However, Trump called Kamala the meanest, most horrible and disrespectful senator during a White House briefing on Tuesday.
