Scores of Indian Americans have been reported to have tested positive for Covid-19 and several have also succumbed to death because of the complications of the disease. The same has been reported from some of the global community organisations based out of the United States, which is now considered the epicentre of the global pandemic.
There are no official or even unofficial counts of the number of Indian Americans who have been affected by the virus, there have been several private social groups that the significant number of the same is based out of New York and New Jersey.
Both New York and New Jersey are the two states with the highest number of infected cases in the United States. Just by Monday, the two states reported a combined number of infected individuals over 170,000 with the death toll over 5,700.
Several of the community leaders have reported saying that they have been receiving reports of their near and dear ones testing positive for the virus. Even the former president of the American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (AAPI was admitted to the intensive care unit because of the complications.
Veteran Indian-American journalist Brahm Kuchibhotla, who worked with the United News of India also passed away on Monday in New York because of the constant complications that he experienced.
Several of the community leaders around the areas of New York as well as Washington have tested positive for the novel coronavirus. Some of them are self quarantining inside their homes while the others have been admitted to the hospitals.
Sewa International, which started their services owing to this global covid-19 pandemic, stated saying that they have experienced a surge in the number of calls that they have been receiving seeking help.
Indian Americans have worked together to raise an amount of USD 204,000 for a Houston based IT professional, Rohan Bavadekar who is on ventilation, fighting this deadly coronavirus.
Aside from Rohan himself, his wife and three children have also tested positive for the virus. Even the Federation of Kerala Associations in North America said that they have lose four community members to this virus.
A IT professional in Silicon Valley has also tested positive for the virus along with all the immediate family members.
Dr Mukul S Chandra, medical director of the Cardiac Preventive Care and Research at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton in Ohio has also tested positive for the virus and is on immediate ventilation support and is fighting for his life.
As per the statistics and reports under the John Hopkins University, the total number of confirmed cases across the world has crossed 1.4 million with over 82,000 deaths reported worldwide.
US currently has already crossed over 400,000 confirmed cases with reports of over 12,000 deaths. New York and New Jersey are the worst hit states in the country, followed by Michigan, California and Louisiana.
