An Indian based Uber driver has been sentenced to be in a prison for a year as he was transporting people illegally entering the United States from the Canadian border, as said by the officials.

The accused has been identified as Jaswinder Singh who is 30 years of age and who had received asylum in the United States has been sentenced by Judge David Hurd at a federal court in Utica in the New York state on Thursday. Grant Jaquith who is a federal prosecutor has said that Jaswinder Singh would be facing possible deportation.

Jaswinder Singh has been admitted to picking up several people who have been crossing the border illegally between the months of January and May of the year 2019 for the payments and to transport them inland, as said by the Justice Department.

He had been arrested during the month of May in the last year when he went to spot near the border of Canada in order to pick up for the payment of an amount of $2,200 an adult and a child who had crossed over illegally.

It has been said that the border of the United States and Canada is of 8,840 kilo meters and is mostly open and lightly guarded unlike the borders of the other sides of the country like the southern border of the country of United States with Mexico where it is strictly guarded.

It has been said that the citizens of Canada and the United States can cross into the countries of each other with no need of visas although work permits would be need for the employees in order for the employment in each other’s countries.

However, the citizens of the other countries like India who are not covered by the programmes regarding the the US visa free entry programmes would need a visa in order to cross into United States from Canada.

The government data of the United States that although there would be only small number of people who would cross over illegally from Canada but the number has been gradually increasing and it has almost been doubling to the count being 963 in the year 2018 from the previous year.
