Saudi Arabia has decided to liberalize visas for Indian tourists as it is not withstanding its attempts that were made recently to pacify Pakistan. Any Indian travelling by Saudi national carrier for tourism holding a valid US, UK or Schengen will be offered visa-on-arrival in Saudi Arabia, says Economic Times.
The only criteria for such visa holders is a country to issue visit to visa before landing at any airport in Saudi through a Saudi air carrier. Saudi Arabia has announced in September that for the first time, tourists visas will be offered as it opened the ultra-conservative kingdom to holiday makers which is a part of a push to diversify its economy away from oil.
Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s Vision 2030 reform programme consisted kickstarting tourism as one of the centre pieces in order to make the biggest Arab economy for a post-oil era.
Ahmed al-Khateeb tourism chief said, “Opening Saudi Arabia to global tourists is a historic moment for our country.” he added saying that, “Visitors will be surprised, by the treasures we have to share – five UNESCO World Heritage Sites, a vibrant local culture and breath taking natural beauty.”
