S Jaishankar External Affairs Minister reiterated the significant contribution which has been made by movement of persons in a fair and non-discriminatory manner to the deepening of bilateral ties between India and the United States as he pitched strongly for H-1B visa holders.

Jaishankar told the reporters at a joint news conference that people to people ties have been defining elements of friendship between India and the US along with Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, the Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Defence Secretary Mark Esper.

He praised the Indians and Indian Americans and said that he feels proud of the achievements they have made in the United States.

“We take great pride in the achievements of Indians and Indian Americans in the United States and their contribution to American society, economy and polity,” he said.

“Trade and services including the movement of persons in a fair and non-discriminate discriminatory manner has contributed significantly to the deepening of ties,” Jaishankar said.

Jaishankar has said that the steps to promote better understanding among each others stake holders connected at different levels have been agreed by the two countries and that he is looking forward to work with the US in order to maintain and develop the ties.

Jaishankar said that there has come a stage where in the regular exchange between the parliamentaries has to be made and provision of short-term internship opportunities were to be made for the aspiring entrepreneurs.

“We’ve arrived at a common intent to facilitate regular exchanges between our parliamentarians and also to provide short-term internship opportunities for aspiring entrepreneurs to through dedicated programmes,” he said.

He praised Pompeo for reiterating the US governments support to the Chhabahar project because it would benefit Afghanistan immensely. As he referred to the ongoing negotiations on trade, he gave out confidence on having a balanced outcome which satisfies both the sides.

He said that a new agreement has been brought that facilitates the cooperation between science and technology as he mentioned about the excellent cooperation between India and the US in science and technology.

“India and the United States have an excellent cooperation in science and technology and we have concluded and brought into effect a new agreement that facilitates science and technology cooperation,” he said.

He also said that an agreement on the water resources has also been made between Indian ministry and the US geological survey in order to collaborate and assess the quality of the water management.

“We have also today reached an agreement on water resources between our ministry and the US geological survey for collaboration and quality assessment of the management of water,” the minister said.

Pompeo stated that a fair and reciprocal trade deal exists between US and India.
