The President of United States is all set to scrap a programme, which helps in granting work permits to immigrants, arrived in the country illegally as children. This move will affect around 7,000 Indian-Americans, according to a report published in The Economic Times.
The Deferred Action for Children Arrival or DACA, was an important immigration reform made by the former President Barack Obama administration.
However, according to the sources quoted by the leading daily said that the President Trump has already decided to scrap the initiative. According to the White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders, the decision will be taken by the President today.
But the uncertainties are still hovering on the decision as according to various media reports, there can be a change in the decision by the President.
The speaker of US House of Representatives said that the President should not terminate DACA as the children “know no other country than United States”. He further quoted as saying that according to him it should be “fixed” by the Congress.
According to the statistics of US Citizenship and Immigration Service obtained on March 31, 2017, Indian ranks at 11th among all the countries, which are the origins for the DACA students. The average age of these students is 22 and around 60% of them are on the way of finishing advanced education.
