On Thursday, the latest immigration statistics published data stating a 63 percent increase in Indian student visas to the UK.

According to the statistical data released by the British High Commission, UK’s latest immigration statistics show a 21% increase in the number of students when compared to 2018.

In 2018, 19,000 Indians received the visa and in 2019, 30,000 Indians received the tier-4 student visa for the year ending September 2019. India is the next country after China.

The commission says that this significant rise is four times as fast as the global rate. In 10 years, around 2,70,000 Indians got a quality education in the UK and all the top Universities have been a home to them.

Besides, Indians choose the UK for a holiday as well. There is a 9% increase in visit visas to the UK.

Further, it has been estimated that majority of the UK visas are taken by Indians and almost 90% of the visas successfully get through. This is remarkable when looked at from a global level. 51% of Indians were given the Tier 2 visas and 56,000 Indians received permanent work visas as well.

Dominic Asquith, the UK High Commissioner said to India “This is now the third consecutive year in which the numbers have increased. It is important to us because these young leaders of tomorrow will reinforce the living bridge that connects India and the UK,”

He added, that more Indians are choosing to study at the UK’s “world-class educational institutions”.

Barbara Wickham, Director of India, British Council thinks that quality education in the UK encourages more Indians to consider the UK as a good place to pursue further education and this engagement is building the relationship between both nations.
