A recent statistic revealed there is a rise in Indians, including those based in the United States, acquiring the Canadian permanent residency.

In 2018, more than 39,500 Indian citizens obtained permanent residency, also known as a green card, in Canada under the express entry system. Canada admitted over 92,000 new permanent residents through express entry system in 2018.

In 2017, Canada admitted 65,000 permanent residents, including 26,300 Indians, under the express entry system, reported Times of India. The number of Indians acquiring permanent residency increased in 2018 by 51 percent from the previous year.

This development comes after the Indian working in the United States are facing problems such as delays or denials of H-1B visa extensions, or green card backlogs. In recent, there is even a plan to revoke the right to work of H-1B spouses, resulting in migration flow to Canada.

What Is the Express Entry System?

Express Entry System (EES) is a system used by Canada to manage applications for permanent residency through certain immigration program. EES is used to manage the application of qualified and skilled workers.

Under the express entry program, candidates fill an online application and they are placed in the express entry pool and ranked relative to each other based on CRS (comprehensive ranking system). Those clear cut-off marks are sent “invitations to apply” for permanent residency.
